This Privacy Policy explains how ScanChef processes information when you use the ScanChef mobile app and related services.

About ScanChef

ScanChef lets users scan food and ingredients, generate recipe ideas, view estimated nutrition information, use dietary preferences and ingredient exclusions, and access Premium subscription features.

Information we process

Depending on how you use ScanChef, we may process:

• food photos or other images you take with the camera or upload for ingredient analysis;
• detected ingredients and ingredients you enter manually;
• dietary preferences and ingredient exclusions;
• generated recipes and related recipe requests;
• purchase and subscription status; and
• app and device diagnostics, server logs, and similar troubleshooting or security information.

Camera, photos, and AI processing

You can take or upload food photos for ingredient analysis. Food photos, detected ingredients, manually entered ingredients, and recipe requests may be sent through ScanChef's servers to server-side AI providers, including OpenAI and/or Google Gemini, for AI analysis and recipe generation. Provider processing is subject to the applicable provider's data handling terms and settings.

How information is used

We use information to provide ingredient recognition and recipe generation, apply selected preferences or exclusions, provide subscription access and other app functionality, troubleshoot problems, maintain security, prevent abuse, and comply with legal obligations.

Premium subscriptions

Purchases and subscriptions are processed through the Apple App Store and RevenueCat. ScanChef receives subscription and entitlement information needed to provide Premium access, but does not receive your full payment card details.

Sharing and service providers

Information may be shared with service providers that support the app, such as AI processing, subscription management, hosting, diagnostics, security, and infrastructure providers. We may also disclose information when required by law or when reasonably necessary to protect ScanChef, its users, or others.

Retention

Information is retained only as needed for app functionality, provider processing, security, troubleshooting, and legal obligations. Retention may vary by the type of information, how the service is used, and the practices of the providers involved.

International processing

ScanChef and its service providers may process information in countries other than the country where you live. Where required, appropriate safeguards are used for international processing or transfers.

No sale of personal data

ScanChef does not sell personal data.

Children

ScanChef is not intended to knowingly collect personal information from children under applicable age limits. If you believe a child has provided personal information, please contact us so the request can be reviewed.

Your choices and deletion requests

You may choose not to submit a photo or optional preference information. For privacy questions or requests to delete information associated with your use of ScanChef, email scanchef.app@gmail.com. We may need information sufficient to identify and process your request, and some information may be retained where required for security or legal reasons.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy as ScanChef or its service providers change. The effective date above identifies the current version.
